A larger-than-life bumblebee drifts through a soft blue sky, carrying a miniature world of wildflowers, mushrooms, fairies, and tiny musicians on its back. Sweeping piano keys curve through the clouds behind it as fairies dance and music fills the scene. Rich with small details and unexpected discoveries, Musical Bee brings nature, music, and fantasy together in one playful, dreamlike world.
Musical Bee began as a commission inspired by my Spring Bee Collection. The collector was drawn to the magical little worlds I create around my bees and wanted music to become part of her piece. But while the painting was taking shape, she had a dream that changed its direction. She saw the bee moving through the clouds, surrounded by wildflowers and mushrooms, with fairies dancing and elves playing music.
That dream became the heart of the painting.
For me, Musical Bee is about harmony…the way music, nature, imagination, and creativity can come together and somehow feel as though they belong. The bee also carries the idea of pollination beyond the natural world: the way we carry and share inspiration, knowledge, beauty, and creativity with one another. Like music, those things can travel from one person to another and become something new along the way.
It is a celebration of music, imagination, connection, and the unexpected places inspiration can take us…harmony in flight.
