This whimsical surrealist painting features an anthropomorphic ostrich ready to soar upward in a dreamlike sky. The ostrich wears vintage aviator goggles and a pilot’s leather cap, its expression both proud and curious— as if mid-mission or lost in an imaginative flight of fancy. And remember…Ostriches can’t fly which adds a comical aspect to this piece. His long neck stretches confidently through a swirling, feathered burst that evokes both takeoff and theatrical flair.
Surrounding the ostrich are a collection of surreal paper airplanes, comets flying through the air and the sun flares that add a theatrical effect.
The Piano keys swirling around the ostrich himself create a sense of motion and wonder. The keys add a rhythmic, musical element, suggesting that this is not just a journey of flight—but one of art, thought, and play.
Altogether, this painting bursts with energy, imagination, and layered symbolism—celebrating the creativity and curiosity that drive us to dream beyond the ordinary.

This piece emerged from a character I first explored in a painting called Free for All—a chaotic stampede of wild energy and symbolic motion that featured five ostriches at its heart. One of those birds stood out to me, almost demanding more story, more space, more sky. The Pilot is the continuation of that spark.
Here, I imagined the ostrich not as a flightless bird bound by gravity, but as a fearless dreamer—strapped into aviator goggles and rising through a surreal symphony of motion and sound. Paper planes whirl around him like fragments of thought, ideas mid-flight, surrounded by a sense of wonder and untamed imagination. Below, piano keys spiral upward around his body, as if the music itself is what lifts him off the ground.
This painting is a celebration of imagination, momentum, and the strange, beautiful freedom that comes when we let our ideas take flight—no matter how improbable they may seem. In this sky, even an ostrich can soar.
