This painting is a vivid and untamed celebration of ancestral power and wild spirit. At the center is a fierce young woman with long black hair, her tongue defiantly outstretched — an expression of playful raw energy, rebellion, and vitality. Her eyes burn with clarity, surrounded by feathers, beads, and swirling marks that dance like spirit smoke — forming a ceremonial headdress woven from motion and meaning where Magical black Raven like birds are flying out of with intensity
Beneath her, emerging from the earth-toned background, is the ancient form of a mammoth — its great body grounding the composition in deep time. The mammoth, with its coiled ivory tusks and shadowed form, feels like a guardian or guide, linking the woman to the strength and memory of the earth…it symbolizes resilience, heritage, and the primal knowledge carried through generations.
A sweeping wing arcs above — vibrant with layered feathers and tribal motifs — suggesting transformation and protection, like a mythic bird spirit soaring overhead. All around, the atmosphere churns with movement: Deep green and blue/violet winds, molten skies, and flowing lines that speak of energy, water, and story.
This piece feels like a dance between past and present, animal and human, sky and soil. A tribute to a girl with native roots — wild, wise, and beautifully untethered — and to the ancient forces that live beneath our feet and within our blood.

Statement From Michael

This painting is a tribute to a girl I once knew — one of the most untamed, powerful women I’ve ever run with. She had Native roots and carried this raw, electric energy everywhere she went. There was something ancient in her spirit, like she remembered things most people had forgotten. She lived loud, wild, and unapologetically.

I started this piece live at an event in Mammoth Lakes, California — which felt fitting, being surrounded by those ancient mountains and wild energy. After the event, I brought it back to the studio and took my time refining it. The color palette was different than what I normally reach for — more earthy reds and deep green tones which to me are difficult colors to work with — but it really came together in a way I’m proud of. It felt like the painting knew what it wanted to be.

I painted her with her tongue out — a playful gesture of defiance, freedom, and fire. Behind her, the spirit of an ancient mammoth rises from the ground — a symbol of ancestral power and timeless memory. The sweeping wing that stretches across the piece feels like both a protector and a force of transformation — part animal, part myth.

The whole painting is a dance between chaos and ceremony — swirling with elements of sky, earth, and spirit. It’s a reflection of her, but also of the wild within all of us — untamed, rooted, and rising.
