A young woman, lost in wonder, rests beneath an open book perched atop her head—its form shaped like a rooftop nestled in a forest of surreal, purple succulent blooms. Her eyes are closed, and a serene, radiant smile spreads across her face, as if she’s completely at peace and utterly satisfied in this moment. Glowing glyphs drift down her cheeks like streams of knowledge overflowing from an unseen realm. The scene feels both whimsical and profound, celebrating the beauty of curiosity, the joy of discovery, and the bliss of being wonderfully adrift in thought.

Statement From Michael

Wonderlost was born from the idea that knowledge and imagination can be both a refuge and a journey. I wanted to capture the quiet joy of getting lost in thought—the kind of mental wandering that feels like a destination in itself. The girl in this piece wears an open book like a rooftop, a shelter for her mind, surrounded by a strange forest of purple succulent blooms. Her eyes are closed, her smile wide and satisfied, as glowing glyphs spill down her face—symbols of ideas and stories flowing freely from within.

For me, this painting is about the blissful moments when we let curiosity lead us without hurry or expectation. It’s about the places our minds wander when we give ourselves permission to drift, and the beauty of finding contentment in the act of wondering.
